ZUYD UNIVERSITY OF APPLIED SCIENCES

Zuyd is an ambitious Dutch university of applied sciences located in the heart of Europe, focusing on three core activities: education for students, research for companies and institutes, and training courses and study programmes for professionals. The various study programmes that we offer have ranked among the top in study programme selection guides for many years. This is partly due to the personal attention we devote to our students and our relatively small scale. In addition, we work intensively with companies, institutions/knowledge institutions, and government bodies across the boundaries of our fields of expertise. We do so because we are convinced that the 21st century is not just about knowledge, but also about the ability to apply that knowledge in practice. With 14,000 students, 50 bachelor's, master's, and associate degree programmes, 12 sites in the cities of Heerlen, Maastricht and Sittard-Geleen, 27 research centres, an average of 7,000 internships and 2,500 graduation projects per year, and with a history stretching back more than 100 years, Zuyd is strongly anchored in Limburg and the Euregion Meuse-Rhine. We make an important contribution to the economic and social development agenda of this region.

Zuyd's activities revolve around the focus of 'passion for development'. We want to make sure that our students acquire the knowledge, insights, and skills that our Euregion needs. In order to achieve this ambition, we apply the following three principles:

  Schools and research centres work together on high-quality study and research programmes that are meaningful to our students and our region.
  
• Anchoring education in the world of practice
  Students are motivated to prepare themselves for their future professions, and their knowledge of the world of practice makes it easier for them to start working in the regional labour market after graduation.
  

Zuyd offers a wide range of study programmes and short courses that are focused on the interests of students and the needs of the (Eu)regional, national and international labour market. Most of them are taught in Dutch, but a couple are in English and therefor suitable for international students. Zuyd is a gateway to knowledge. We offer inspiring and student-oriented learning environments. In our study programmes we aim at quality and innovation. Our university plays an important role in the development of knowledge, art and culture in the Meuse-Rhine Euregion. We also do applied research and develop and disseminate expertise. We participate in social networks and actively contribute to cultural events. Zuyd University is a flexible organization with a profound interest in people. We are creative in the production of innovative solutions and at the same time effective in pursuing measurable goals.

International students are very welcome at Zuyd University of Applied Sciences. About 11% of Zuyd’s 14,000 students comes from outside The Netherlands. Many of our schools have close ties with foreign universities, companies and other institutions all over the world. Our university participates in Erasmus+, the European Lifelong Learning Programme and other exchange programmes. Zuyd offers many work placement opportunities abroad. Students who do not go abroad, can benefit from our internationalisation at home, through Euregional projects, international guest lecturers, language courses and cultural awareness training.
